Wedding Day First Look

So many of my couples are doing first looks at their weddings that it’s easy to assume everyone knows what it is: for those of you who are new to the concept, a first look is when the soon to be married couple sees each other for the first time before the ceremony (usually accompanied by photos of the special moment). While a lot of couples are immediately on board with the idea, others can be skeptical about seeing each other before the ceremony. Whichever you choose, make sure it’s right for both of you and you can’t go wrong!

We all get nervous. And on a day when all of your closest friends and family have their eyes glued to you, those nerves can definitely get the better of you. One of the hardest parts about this is the person you usually talk to about this type of thing, your spouse, isn’t “allowed” to see you or even text you. I know personally I use my other half as my life line for everything, he is my safety blanket. So not having him accessible when I need him the most can be daunting to think about. Doing a first look is a great way to get some of those pre-wedding jitters out and give you that special one on one time with your future spouse. Just having a moment to yourselves to be together before the ceremony gets underway can do wonders for your nerves and excitement! Not to mention, the photos you get from a first look can be some of the best photos of your day: there is nothing like the reaction of a couple seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day.

The other benefit of first look is you are able to take A LOT more photos prior to your ceremony. This means you could have all of your bridal party photos done so when cocktail hour comes around they are dismissed. Your bridal party can go enjoy cocktail hour while you are wrapping up family photos. If you do not have a large list for family photos, then lucky you gets some more down time to hang out by yourselves or with your guests at cocktail hour!

Not totally comfortable with throwing tradition out the window and seeing your spouse before the wedding? We’ve got you covered. For those of you that don’t want the surprise spoiled but still want a moment with each other before the ceremony, consider something like standing back to back or even blindfolding both of you so that you can still hold hands and speak without actually seeing each other. Another idea I’ve seen is couples do is exchanging notes and reading them around the corner from one another. The options are seriously endless. Whichever way you choose, you will definitely not regret having that special time with your bride or groom to geek out before your ceremony begins and get out some of your jitters!
