Bachelorette Planning
In all the wedding planning madness, there’s one big detail that no one wants to leave on the back burner: their bachelorette or bachelor party. It’s the one night solely devoted to YOU where you get to party with your friends and soak up all the attention in an almost-married cloud of joy. This day, much like your wedding day, should be everything you’ve ever hoped and dreamed. Check out these tips to help you be the best bachelorette you can be and make the most of your big night.
Be honest. It’s best to have this conversation early on so that your Maid of Honor/Best Man/bridal party is given the proper tools to plan dates, locations, and activities. Whether it’s a big weekend in Vegas or a relaxing day at the spa, being direct is the simplest way to having a fun event that you and, by proxy, they will enjoy.
Be flexible. It can be really hard to get everyone together at the same place and same time, especially if you have a lot of out-of-towners. One of the best ways to set yourself up for success is to understand that a lot of planning goes into this night(s) and you need to give your party planners some freedom. You may imagine yourself partying up the night before your wedding in an epic last night of single-dom, but realistically, you don’t want to be hungover the next day at your wedding, so be open to the idea of planning ahead and be prepared to present multiple options for dates.
Manage your expectations. This tip applies to a lot of aspects of this night, but in a nutshell, keep in mind that the big parties you see in movies may not be feasible. Do you have any idea how much work that takes? I bet you do! That certainly doesn’t mean it won’t be an incredible night, but understand that you may not be able to do a week-long vacation abroad with 20 of your closest friends or a luxurious spa day with all the treatments you can think of. Also remember that this may be the first time your bridal party is meeting, so everyone may not instantly be best friends. Give them time to get to know each other and it will definitely be a smash.
Back. Off. Seriously, though. Once you’ve had a conversation with whoever is planning the bachelorette party, you’ve got to step aside. It should be up to the party planners how much they want you involved in the planning and you need to respect their wishes! They’re probably working their butts off to make everything turn out smoothly and it can be a big stresser if you’re constantly checking in, trying to help, making plans, etc. Unless your bridal party tells you specifically they need help and want to include you in the planning, the best thing you can do is take a back seat and let it happen.
Most importantly, have fun! This is the time for you to let loose and enjoy time with your friends in an atmosphere that will most likely be very different than what you are planning for your wedding. Letting someone else take the reins should be a welcome reprieve, so enjoy the moment and let your hair down!
